I'm doing the same - Wilson recently got a hold of my camera and now the flash doesn't work - oh darn! I guess I'll have to get a new one - I've got 2 I'm looking at (SLR digitals) Nikon D40 and the Canon Rebel - I can't wait to see what advice you get!
Nikon all the way! I had a pretty nice Kodak that I thought I loved...until I got a Nikon several months ago and I'll never buy anything else! The one I have is a smaller camera you can throw in your purse, but my next purchase is the D40...

I have the Nikon D40 and LOVE it. Not too expensive and the auto setting is great. I really recommend any of the Nikons (D40,60or 80)
